About Us
Cramer CenterHistory | Facilities | Vision
The Cramer Retreat Center is focused on the development of Christian faith. Located near I-45N just north of FM 1960 in Spring, Texas, it provides a serene setting near Houston where people can experience God’s peace, grow spiritually, and be renewed in their faith.

The property was acquired by John Robinson at auction with proceeds from his aunt, Mrs. Cramer’s, will and inheritance. Mr. Robinson in turn, deeded it to The United Methodist Foundation of the Texas Annual Conference. It was used by Disaster Relief Initiative to house work teams aiding the Tropical Storm Allison Flood Relief effort for over a year.

Now, it is available for use by churches and individuals desiring a rich, inspiring Christian experience in a pastoral setting. It provides an ideal setting for day meetings or overnight retreats by groups or individuals.

Facilities

House 3The Cramer Retreat Center provides a perfect place for staff retreats, local church planning meetings, and small group retreats. For the pastor or lay person seeking time away, this facility offers the ultimate solution.

The Cramer Retreat Center is situated on 18½ acres of land, including 3 ½ acres of soothing, serene ponds. There are three houses on the property. One is the residence of the on-site property manager. The other two have a combined overnight guest capacity of 22. Each house has a full kitchen and 2 full baths.

Oxalis Cottage has four bedrooms and beds for 10 guests. Its large living room has ample space for gatherings of retreat center guests and is equipped with a large white board and bulletin boards to facilitate presentations and planning retreats.

Grapevine Arbor, the original two-story residence on the property, features three bedrooms and has bunk beds to sleep twelve guests. The upstairs bedrooms have desks for personal study and windows that look through the woods toward the ponds. With long porches on front and back and a living room fireplace, this guest house is well appointed for slowing down and taking time to pray and contemplate God's Word and God's will for ourselves and our world today.

Prayer Garden. With the assistance of volunteer work and gifts, Cramer Retreat Center has begun a lovely prayer garden area for use by all of its guests.

Labyrinth Prayer Labyrinth. With the assistance of volunteer work and gifts, Cramer Retreat Center has a prayer labyrinth in the woods for use by all of its guests.

Vision
The Cramer Retreat Center is an excellent resource working within the Texas Annual Conference. In addition to the houses currently onsite, there is one unfinished wellhouse facility. With prayer and planning, the future is moving toward larger group housing, a multi-use facility, a chapel, and personal prayer hermitages.

With these additions the Cramer Retreat Center will provide spiritual formation opportunities near the Houston area for larger groups and still accommodate individuals seeking God’s peace.

Future VisionIn response to numerous inquiries from a variety of groups including Walk to Emmaus, Cramer Retreat Center has worked in conjunction with Turner Partners Architects which generously contributed its time to help develop a possible vision for the future. Click on the plat on the right to see an enlarged version.

For this vision to become a reality, we need your help. There are opportunities now for volunteer service/work groups to help with maintainance, repair, and building. We also have need for financial support to furnish and up-grade the current facilities. Donations may be sent to:
